Hello, Friends of Pusch Ridge Golf
We hope this blog finds everyone well and enjoying the summer! It's hard to believe that it's already August - Fall Golf is just around the corner!
Tony D'Angelo (FOPRG President) and Anna Bifano (FOPRG Vice President) had the opportunity to host a booth and represent "Friends" at the Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce annual awards breakfast on July 28th at the Hilton El Conquistador. Joining them in the booth was Darryl Jannise, General Manager of El Conquistador Golf. During the event they shared our story about the value of golf to the Oro Valley Community, and the many successes we have celebrated over the last two years as a result of reopening Pusch Ridge. Our theme for the event (and our new motto) was/is: "Connecting the Community Through the Game of Golf."
Our booth contained four posters with information about the demographics of golfers, environmental focus, golf's economic contribution, and total daily water use. There were handouts explaining who we are and what we are focusing on for the future! (Click here to view the handout and posters.)
They had many excellent conversations with attendees, including Mayor Joe Winfield, Council Person, Joyce Jones-Ivey and Jeff Wilkins, the new Oro Valley Town Manager. (Tony and Anna had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Wilkins the day before the event to share our story and provide him with historical data and details. He brings great experience, a positive approach and creative ideas.) They also connected with other non-profits represented and are following up for future partnership opportunities.
They shared our commitment to the community, including our marketing plan, focused on partnering with local hotels, apartments, restaurants and youth golf organizations. As the only local 9-hole golf course it is an ideal amenity for business travelers, local residents, families and young people learning the game. It is Fast, Friendly and Affordable!
During the event, Darryll generously donated a gift card for four rounds of golf at Pusch Ridge! Michael Burns, Managing Director of I Love OV was the lucky winner. Be sure to check out their website for all things Oro Valley at ILoveOV.com
The course is scheduled to open around October 27th! A little earlier than in previous years. We plan to have another grand opening event – so stay tuned for details and updates.
Our original goal to market the Pusch Ridge Golf Course and prove its viability has become much bigger. Our four leagues have brought people together and helped support many local businesses. Our marketing strategy has helped to highlight the importance and economic value of tourism to the community.
Who would have thought that the journey we embarked on two years ago in support of this beautiful 9-hole golf course would open so many doors?
We are closing with this important reminder for your consideration.
The Oro Valley Town Council will be reviewing the next steps for Pusch Ridge Golf Course in January 2024. Our three-year guarantee will end in May 2024.
We need to keep our focus on the continued success of the course, promoting year-round golf at Pusch Ridge, increasing rounds, working with El Conquistador Golf on more leagues/events and improvements, expanding our marketing strategy, and demonstrating that golf is an activity for all ages and skill levels that encourages people to breathe the fresh air while enjoying family and friends.
