The Friends of Pusch Ridge Golf (FOPRG) partnered with the El Conquistador Golf team to create a tranquility garden at the top of the fourth hole in honor of Rick Messina, our beloved groundskeeper, who we lost in the summer of 2024.

The El Conquistador Golf team took down a dead tree at the hole and helped level the ground in preparation for the new plants and landscaping.  FOPRG provided funds and manpower, solicited donated plants, and, along with a local contractor, created a magical space. 

 

Many generous Friends donated succulents of all varieties that have been planted. Other Friends donated money for colorful pots and flagstones. Our community is abundant with thoughtful and generous humans.

The Rick Messina Tranquility Garden was dedicated during the Friends annual Opening Tournament on October 24, 2024.

Rick’s parents, John and Marlene Messina, were honored at the golf tournament luncheon. After the luncheon, they were escorted to the garden with the Town of Oro Valley Mayor, Joe Winfield. Many other golfers and neighbors joined us as well. The Messinas cut the ribbon, embraced the view, shed tears, and shared many hugs. 

 

This is truly a community within a community. and we thank all who helped make this location a place of tranquility and love.
